HIS Beautiful Names

We have just completed the first day of Ramadhan. Alhamdulillah.
I've shared previously how I wasn't able to fast last year except for about only 5 days. So, being able to replace the 25 days of fast since the month before last as well as fasting today is an amazing feeling and an achievement for me personally. In a way, personally this Ramadhan is better for me compared to last year in terms of my own physical wellbeing and ability to fast. Alhamdulillah for the ability to fast today. May Allah continue to grant me the strength to do so for the rest of this Ramadhan.
Last year I wasn't sure I would reach this year's Ramadhan as my condition wasn't good, far from it. But here I am now, Alhamdulillah.
Two of my very close beloved family members, my parents, are in the hospital right now. Two different hospitals and it has been on my mind a lot the past week especially even more so with the current situation but they told me and the rest of the family not to worry and I believe them and I believe that Allah is the best protector and will keep them safe and away from any harm. O Allah, please keep them safe, cure them and heal them. Please make prayers for my family. May all of us be protected from illnesses and may He heal and cure us all.
Today, I would like to share this book that I bought in Madinah last year. I started reading it last year and only reached half way last Ramadhan. This year, today I am re-reading it.
Who do we love the most? To know is to love.
I remember when I was in uni during matriculation we sang the "AsmaulHusna (the Beautiful Names) and during that time I studied the translation. But I didn't go any deeper than that. Just "singing-along" to the melody of asmaulhusna. But I love it. If you know it and have memorised it that's amazing but if you haven't just google it or youtube it. There are different beautiful melodies that makes it easier for us to try and memorise it.
"Tak kenal maka tak cinta"
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said:
“ALLAH has ninety nine names, anyone who learns them will enter in paradise.”
So let's listen, recite, learn, understand and most importantly try to cherish these beautiful names of our Creator.
Bought this book, The Most Beautiful Names of Allah - Gift of a Lifetime - by Samira Fayyad Khawaldeh, in Madinah Al-Munawwarah.
When I was at the Jarir Bookstore with my parents in Madinah last year, there were 3 different books that I was eyeing all on the names of Allah. I was really curious and wanted to know more. One was smaller and simpler, the other bigger and looks more advanced. I chose this one as it seems easier to understand. Found this photo Khubayb took of me while I was choosing the books to buy in that bookshop.
This year, we actually had plans to be in Madinah around this time with the kids too and to fast and spend our Ramadhan for the first time in Madinah with Khubayb's parents, my in-laws who are staying there. We can only plan but Allah is the best of Planners.
Anyways, here is the book that I'm going to share here today. I love it because I was curious to know more about the names of Allah and I believe that if we know more about His names our Love will be increased. I've shared before one of the prayers so that our love to Him will be the Love that we love the most. But I do realise prayers are not enough. We need to put in different kind of effort. And to love, we need to know. We need to learn more. It is a continuous learning process. To get to know Him, love Him and build a strong connection with Him.
I haven't finished reading the book but I hope to do so in this few days. Today I put away everything else after Zuhr and spent some time re-reading while doing my electrotherapy treatment and am going to share about 6 of the names here. Hopefully by sharing I will remember even more.
1. Allah
2. Ar-Rahman - The Compassionate
3. Ar-Rahim -The Merciful
4. Al-Malik - The Sovereign
5. Al-Quddus - The Holy
6. As-Salam - The All-peace
Lessons / notes I've been reminded with today for me to reflect upon while learning the 6 names above.
1."Truly I am Allah; there's no god but I; therefore serve Me" (20:14)
=== Nothing else matters. Our purpose is to serve Him in different ways.
"All things perish, except Himself" (28:88)
=== Everything is temporary. Nothing is permanent, except Him.
"When we decree a thing, We need only say "Be", and it is (16:40)
===Things happen and exist by the will of Allah
He supervises all our affairs. So, don't worry.
2. We must always call Him, Ar-Rahman.
Our deeds themselves do not qualify us to go to Paradise.
That is also why it is important for us to always remember to begin any action after saying the words "Bismillahirrahman nirrahim"
"In the name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate.
Remember to have compassion for all Allah's creatures.
3. We are all sinners.
HE is the Most Merciful.
Mercy implies pity, patience and forgiveness all of which we all need from Ar-Rahim.
HE is more merciful than vengeful.
In a Hadith Qudsi, Allah says "My mercy surpasses my wrath"
Allah is more merciful to His servants than she is to her child.
It is essential for us to also be merciful so that He will have mercy on us.
One who craves mercy shows compassion to other.
4. "He is Allah, there is no god but He. He is the King." (59:23)
=== He own the universe and controls it and has power over everything.
Allah is the Lord of all sovereignty.
"Say : "I take refuge with the Lord of men, the King of men, the God of men.'" (114:1-3)
Allah is in need of nothing and nobody. yet, everything and everybody are in need of Him.
"So glory be to Him, who has control of all things, and to whom you shall all be recalled." (36:83)
===To Him belong Kingship, majesty, power and wealth
5. None of us are perfect. We are all imperfect.
Only Allah is free from imperfections, shortcomings or need & He is the One to whom are attributed all good and beautiful names.
6. In times of fear, anxiety and hardship, a believer finds peace with Allah.
